Your linear drain doesn't need to be the entire width of the shower. In fact, our drains would be hard to fit wall to wall as the drains have a flange that exceeds the length of the visible drain channel which would mean that the drain flange would be under the walls in a wall to wall application. for visual appeal we recommend leaving at least a similar distance for the ends of the drain as from the side to the wall.
