How To Fit A Wet Room Tray?

Fitting a wet room tray, even with a wet room kit, isn't easy. We'd recommend getting a professional to install the wet room for you. However, if you are confident in your own ability to install a wet room, a wet room kit makes the entire process as quick and convenient as possible. When combined with materials such as wet room sealer, you can quickly install a wet room in your home without the risk of leaks or water damage to your home.

Please note, the instructions below are simply a guide on how to install a wet room bathroom. They are not a replacement for a professional plumber or wet room installer.

How To Install A Wet Room:

  1. Measure Your Total Floor Area. Once measured, plan the layout of your new wet room, with detailed measurements. Be sure to measure multiple times to ensure you are correct.
  2. Cut Waterproof Boards. If you need to cut any waterproof boards to fit your wet room design, cut them now. Use your hardpoint saw, and lay out your boards to ensure that it all fits cleanly together. Once you've made certain these boards will fit, store them somewhere safe.
  3. Mark the shower tray location on the floor, in addition to the exact position of the drainage hole.
  4. Using the screws or nails, establish where the floor joists will go.
  5. Mark the centre line of the first joist outside the shower area. Remove the shower tray and store somewhere safe.
  6. Using the circular saw, cut along the lines you've marked. Remove the flooring and all nails and screws.
  7. Ensure all other floorboards or flooring sheets are fully secured.
  8. Spread out your solvent adhesive around the inside of the drain connector.
  9. Connect the Dallmer Shower Trap and ensure the adhesive is set. Pour water down the drain to ensure none escapes. Remember to keep your drain and pipes clean with solvent waste pipe cleaner.
  10. Now to prepare the batten to support the floor. Cut some timber batten to the correct length, and screw at approximately 150 mm intervals. Ensure there is approximately 18mm between the top of the batten and the top of joists.
  11. Cut 18mm plywood to fit between the joists, on top of the battens you've just installed.
  12. Measure the shower drain base on the plywood, and cut using a jigsaw. This is to allow the drain base and connector to rise through the new floor.
  13. Lay the wet room shower tray into its position, and ensure it lines up with the shower base. Remove the tray and leave to one side.
  14. Paint the entire wet room floor with the primer and leave to dry. Make sure you leave it for at least an hour to dry, but it's better to leave it overnight. It's also often better to cover the floor with two layers of primer.
  15. Spread the PCI Lastogum Sealant onto the shower tray floor area and, using the notched trowel, ensure there is just the right amount of adhesive left in place.
  16. Place the wet room shower tray into position, and ensure it is bedded down into the adhesive. Ensure that the shower tray is level in both directions.
  17. Apply a thin bead of silicone around the drain's base top, and the outer ring of the shower tray.
  18. Secure the drain top, and ensure the silicone has had time to cure.
  19. Spread more of the Lastogum Sealant onto the floor area, using the notched trowel again, before placing the waterproof board into position and bedding down into the adhesive.
  20. Repeat the above step for the remaining boards, mixing more of the fixative as required. Make sure you leave the adhesive to dry for at least four hours. Again, it is often better to leave the adhesive to dry overnight.
  21. Fix fixing plates along the joists, ensuring that the centre hole is lined up correctly.
  22. Place the waterproof internal corner sealers into position, and mark with a pencil. Using a paintbrush, apply more sealant across the pencil marks.
  23. Place the internal corner into the tape sealer, and apply jointing tape over the top to hold in-place and enhance its waterproofing.
  24. Apply more sealant tape to one edge of the floor, and any adjoining walls.
  25. Using more sealant tape, apply over all board joints and fixing plates. Remember to press down firmly.
  26. Tile up to the edge of the shower drain, and ensure they are gently sloping in the direction of the drain.
  27. Measure from the top of the finished tile to the top of the shower drain.
  28. Using a hard point saw, cut any excess from the bottom of the shower drain top to fit into your tiling.
  29. Fit the O-Ring at the lowest point of the shower drain top.
  30. Easy the drain top into place, then make sure you fill the gap around the edge of the shower drain top. Make sure you're using the same grout as on your tiles to create an even, professional look.
  31. Place the shower drain grate into position.
  32. To give everything a chance to dry, give your wetroom at least a full day (24 hours) before using your shower.
